Days 1-4: Mountain Stars in Mombasa, Kenya #AfricaCombine2023
Updated: Sunday, 2 April 2023
MEDIA ABSTRACT: Mountain Stars players, coaches, and parents helped build desks, paint a school, teach young kids, host basketball skills camps, learn Swahili, and help with a solar-powered water pump in a tiny village on the south coast of Mombasa, Kenya.
PROJECT DETAILS: Starting in Mombasa, Kenya, Mountain Stars provided much-needed classroom supplies by building a water system and 100 desks with the local villages, and a new classroom with four walls. Before, villagers walked miles to bring back buckets of water for the day. Installing a solar-powered water system has provided stability, allowing them to focus on progress instead of survival. Under a multiyear partnership, the villages' leadership is now able to leverage Mountain Stars' resources with qualified teachers and monitoring that has already empowered hundreds of university graduates from these villages. In addition, Mountain Stars athletes taught classes at a local high school and elementary school.
